Cross River Born Lawyer And Activist, Martin Obono Arrested For Calling Out Police

Martin Mbasekei Obono, a lawyer and rights activist is currently in Police custody for calling out the Nigerian Police Force over it’s handling of his client.

PREMIUMTIMES reports that Mr. Obono was arrested and taken to the Wuse Zone 3 police station in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

He is said to have tweeted about a client who reported a rape matter and how livid he was about the way the police handled the case.

“Five days ago, my clients reported a rape case. The suspect used Police to turned the case on its head and got the Ladies detained the girls in same cell with men. I was livid. It didn’t end there, they asked them to bring a level 14 civil servant, C of O to surety their bail,” Obono had tweeted three days ago.

He was arrested on Friday and his phones taken from him.

His last social media activity was about 11:00AM on Friday on Twitter.

The Police has been reached for comments.
