  • No Home Was Allocated.

Information from CrossRiverWatch reporters who went to the Bakassi IDP estate which was supposed to be allocated to beneficiaries today by Governor Ben Ayade (Cross River State) say the event did not take place as planned.

A statement yesterday from the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Asu Okang said, as part of activities to mark the 2020  June 12 Democracy Day, the Governor will be handing over the 52 buildings at the Bakassi IDP camp to allottees.

Traditional Rulers, appointees and other dignitaries were invited to the event which was schedule to hold by 11:30am today.

Dignitaries including Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, the Paramount Rulers of Bakassi, Odukpani, Biase and Commissioners, the Bakassi LG Chairman were all present at the venue waiting for the Governor till 5pm.

“When there was no word from the Governor, everyone had to disperse.” Our reporter says while the waiting lasted, some miscreants at some point invaded the arena and were scrambling forcefully for the food items that had been kept for distribution.

When it was obvious that the Governor wasn’t coming, the boys around invaded the place, scattered the entire food items that were brought for distribution to the allottees. Rice, noodles and others stuffs that were brought. They made a mess of everything and looted them away and everyone just ran away for safety including the dignitaries.

The allocation of the homes still did not hold today as the Governor was no where to be found. It remains to be seen what the Ayade Government wants to do with the 52 buildings. People are currently on their way out and network is very bad.
