By CrossRiverWatch Admin

Motorists plying the Calabar – Itu road are currently lamenting the state of the road with a gridlock arising from failed portions of the road.

A traveler, Tim Ushie shared photographs of a gridlock claiming he has been held up for more than 8 hours.

The distance between Calabar and Itu local government area in Akwa Ibom state is less than 70 kilometers but due to bad roads, the journey has become unbearable of late.

Also, a there is a minor gridlock occasioned by the abandoned Spaghetti flyover project of the state government at Odukpani junction.

A frequent traveler (name withheld) just informed our newsroom that the gridlock extends from the Poles, Piles and Pylons factory in Akamkpa local government area to the Police checkpoint at Pamol, Odukpani local government area.

“I cannot say exactly how far it extends towards the Itu bridge axis but I spent nearly two hours to get into Calabar. The distance is less than 30 kilometers and I spent over two hours,” the traveler said.

Governor Ben Ayade had begun construction of a spaghetti flyover at the Odukpani junction which is the major interchange when leaving or entering Calabar from Northern, Eastern and Southern Nigeria but the project has since been abandoned.

The junction links the Calabar – Itu – Ikot-Ekpene as well as the Calabar – Ikom – Katsina-Ala highways.
