Traders at the Ika Ika Oqua market in Calabar remain in disbelief over the level of carnage after hundreds of stalls and dozens of shops were razed on Friday night.
When CrossRiverWatch visited on Saturday morning, traders could be seen in groups with some trying to salvage what was left of their goods.
The cause of the fire remains unknown with the Cross River state government yet to issue a statement.
Popularly referred to as Marian market, it is located less than five meters away from the Calabar Municipal council secretariat and 3.8km from the U. J Esuene sports stadium.
This is the second time in two years, part of the market is razed after a similar incident destroyed goods worth millions on January 1, 2018.
That inferno came barely two months after the electronic wing of the Watt market was razed on November 27, 2017.
