WASH Media Network Inaugurated In Cross River State

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Media Network has been commissioned in Nigeria’s South-South, Cross River State.

The commissioning of WASH Media Network in the State was the climax of a 3-day workshop in Calabar. Florence Oluohu, Abenmire Daniel and Archibong Jeremiah were inaugurated as Coordinator, Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Courses received by the 15-man team include: Understanding WASH and WASH sector players; PEWASH and Clean Nigeria campaign: current situation of WASH in Nigeria and Cross River State; Role of media in the Clean Nigeria campaign and attainment of SDG6; Developing WASH-inclined stories ideas; And WASH story: from pitch to print.

Others are Photography for development, human interest stories and mobile photography; WASH media and budget monitoring and tracking; WASH advocacy and journalists as WASH advocate; Profiling WASH stories; WASH Media Network and the social media.

The network members had a field trip to two communities in Biase Local Government Areas of the State: Ikpariyong Iboko, Open Defection Free (ODF) and Afifia North where Open Defecation (OD) is in practice.

The resources persons are Wale Elekolusi, Oluwasola Carzim, Boluwatito Awe, Juliet Iordye, Isine Ibanga, Olajide Adelana, Nelson Owoicho, Ebiye Dorgu and Tolutope Agunloye.

The workshop was organized by WASH Media Network in collaboration with the Rural Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion in Nigeria (RSHPIN) programme.
