BREAKING: Lawyers, Residents Boo Deputy Governor As Cross River Judiciary Crisis Lingers

By Jonathan Ugbal

Lawyers and residents in Calabar booed the Cross River Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara Esu when he tried to address them over the issues bedeviling the State’s judiciary.

The State has been without a Chief Judge for 46 days and legal practitioners as well as residents took the streets on Monday to protest the continuous vacancy in the position of the judiciary, calling for a substantive Chief Judge.

After preventing Courts from sitting at the headquarters of the High Court complex, they moved to the Governor’s Office.

The Permanent Secretary in the Special Services office, Alfred Mboto tried unsuccessfully to address them.

Professor Esu came out and when he tried to speak, was asked to leave as he was not a lawyer and had no powers to take action since the Governor, Benedict Ayade was not on vacation.

He left immediately.
