CALABAR: Suspected Kidnapper Escapes Police Custody, Two More Abducted On Independence Day

A suspected kidnapper has escaped the custody of the Nigerian Police in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The suspect is said to have been arrested by locals in Akpabuyo Local Government Area led by a suspected drug barron, one Mr. Francis Okon Mesembe also known as Abonima and handed over to the police.

He was taken into custody by men of the Operation Puff Adder and due to their cells filled to capacity, was chained to a generator inside the building housing the police operation at the Akim Area Command situated along IBB way Calabar.

He escaped between Wednesday and Thursday with the cuffs still attached to the generator.

Meanwhile, as Nigeria celebrated its 60th independence anniversary, two more were kidnapped in Calabar South and Akpabuyo Local Government Areas.

At Calabar South, one Mrs Ironbar was abducted at her residence along Murray street at about 8:40PM.

At Idundu in Akpabuyo, kidnappers broke into the residence of Mr. Daniel Essien Akpan, a palm plantation owner and businessman, kidnapping him.

The incident occurred at about 1:00AM on Thursday, hours before dawn.

This means at least seven kidnaps have been reported within 120 hours with more unknown to the law enforcement agencies and the press.
