By-Election Ongoing In Cross River North, Low Turnout So Far

By Archibong Jeremiah

By-election into the Senate and House of Assembly in Cross River State is ongoing.

Electoral materials were distributed as early as 7am by INEC officials.

The senatorial by-election is holding in the northern district which houses Ogoja, Yala, Obudu, Obanliku and Bekwara Local Government Area.

Obudu LGA is where the only House of Assembly by-election is being conducted for in the State.

The State Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade has exercised his franchise.

Major contenders in the election is APC and PDP. APC this time around doesn’t have faction but the reverse is the case with PDP which never had in any election since creation of APC.

The tussle in PDP is between the Governor’s backed Dr. Stephen Odey and Hon. Jarigbe Agom. Both have Court judgment favouring their candidature.

Our reporters on ground monitoring the election observes that so far turnout is poor.

The Police had issued a circular restricting movement from 6am – 6pm in the bye-election area while INEC authorities are yet to respond to accusation of compromise by its officials.
