The policemen had, following a tip off, mobilized to the location and it is unclear what led to the confrontation that caused their death.
Photographs obtained by CrossRiverWatch show the police officers with bullet wounds while no corpse of the kidnappers was found in the vicinity when the rescue team arrived suggesting that none was killed.
The Police is said to be on the trail of the kidnappers.
Meanwhile, a suspect who is alleged to have masterminded the stealing of armored cables from power generating sets that provide electricity to power street lights in Obudu Local Government Area has escaped custody.
The suspect, a native of Etung Local Government Area is said to have gotten into a fight with a security official who used a Machete on him.
“When he was taken to the Police Division in Obudu, the DPO (Divisional Police Officer) said he can’t accept him into the cell as he was and was taken to Sacred Heart Catholic Hospital to be treated where he escaped,” a security source told CrossRiverWatch.
The DPO has since been summoned by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sikiru Akande.
