Four suspected kidnappers were on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 shot dead by the Police in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
CrossRiverWatch gathered that the incident took place at No. 24C, School Road, Satellite Town, Calabar, when Operation Akpakwu stormed their hideout and rescue Barrister Endurance Egbara who was kidnapped since 2020 at 26 Atimbo by Ekong Bassey Street.
He was rescued at plot 24c school road, satellite Town, Calabar, after operatives of Operation Akpakwu stormed the building in search of the kidnappers.
One of the kidnapers is said to have abducted and killed a Central Bank Calabar staff that was coming to Calabar from Jos.
He was later arrested at Akamkpa from where he took security agents to show them where they kidnap and keep their victims and on reaching the house at Plot 24c School road in Satellite Town, Calabar, the kidnappers opened fire at Operation Akpakwu and some of the kidnappers ran into the ceiling of the building but were gunned down. Barrister Egbara was found in the house bounded.
Items recovered from the suspects include; locally made guns, substance suspected to be cocaine, an Itel phone, three sim cards, charms, documents of a vehicle with Registration No. CAL 932 TC amongst others. The gang leader and another accomplice escaped with an ash color Toyota Camry with registration number CAL 532 TC, owned by one James Mathew Okon alias Ekpes.
Briefing pressmen on Friday, in Calabar, the State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Sikiru Akande said: “On February, 17th 2021, at about 1705hrs combined teams of Operatives cordoned a hideout of one notorious kidnapper and cultist popularly known as Romance ‘m’ at No. 24C School Road, Satellite Town, Calabar and rescued one Endurance Aniedi Egbara.
“During the process, four (4) suspects sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries in an attempt to evade arrest. They were confirmed dead in the hospital. Investigation is ongoing.”
