DEFECTION: Imoke, NASS Members Arrive Calabar For PDP Stakeholders Meeting

By Jonathan Ugbal

Former Cross River Governor, Liyel Imoke and other bigwigs of the People’s Democratic Party have arrived Calabar, the State capital for the stakeholders meeting of the party which is currently underway at the Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel.

Those present at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport say a large crowd gathered to welcome Mr. Imoke in what is supposed to send a strong message to Governor Ben Ayade after he defected to the All Progressives Congress on Thursday.

The meeting is supposed to chart a new course forward for the party which has occupied the Governorship position in the State since 1999.

Meanwhile, the Cross River Police Command had earlier issued a statement warning those who were not invited to stay away from the venue of the event.

“This message is to warn unequivocally that person(s) or groups not on the invitation list are not permitted to loiter or gather around the venue. (The) Cross River State Police Command will deal decisively with anybody who ventures around this venue with intent to cause breach of Peace,” the statement signed by the Command’s public relations officer, DSP Irene Ugbo read.

“All are warned to keep the peace we are enjoying in this State for our common good,” the statement added.
