The Civil Society Groups for Good Governance, CSGGG has described as a “witch-hunt,” the recent statement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its former operative, Mr. Peter Akpanke where it said he was “dismissed.”

The group in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja and signed by its convener, Dominic Ogakwu said the timing of the tweet was suspicious, attributing it to politicians who were trying to smear Mr. Akpanke’s image as they were scared of his political prowess.

”Peter Akpanke was never dismissed from the EFCC. He did his job diligently, had a good working relationship with the EFCC, and recorded so many convictions during his time with the anti-graft commission.

He was never dismissed from his job. Members of the public are enjoined to find out from the EFCC themselves to erase any doubt.

”His appointment was terminated and there is a difference between termination and dismissal. That does not also stop him from seeking employment elsewhere or seeking elective office. His letter of termination states clearly that the appointment was terminated because his services were no longer needed.

”Those that are pushing this narrative are unpopular candidates who are afraid of his popularity. If they are popular, they should come out and test their popularity.

”This is politics of 2023 and an outright witch-hunt against a philanthropist, politician, and socialite per excellence.

”We call on Cross Riverians to be wary of such destructive politicians who are only good at the pull-him-down syndrome in Cross River state politics.”

The EFCC had in its different social media accounts, shared a statement by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren claiming that Mr. Akpanke was dismissed.

Mr. Akpanke, who is the founder of the Akpanke Foundation had earlier shared his termination letter to dispel rumors of his alleged dismissal.
