Gunmen dressed like men of the Nigerian Police Force earlier on Tuesday stormed the cocoa farm at the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation in Calabar, abducting Mr. Oscar Ofuka, the Special Adviser on Cocoa Development to Governor Ben Ayade.
Mr. Ofuka was preparing grounds waiting for the Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara Esu who had just taken his second jab of the COVID-19 vaccination when two armed men arrived in a red colored Ford Ranger pickup with tinted glass and private license plate, shoving him inside and drove away.
“They threatened to shoot Sunny Inah who tried to resist them while the General Manager, Maurice Inok and another staff, Esther Ofem were shocked at the unfolding scene,” a staff who pleaded anonymity told this reporter on phone.
Mr. Inah is a senior correspondent at the corporation.
The incident happened at about 11:35 AM at the inner gate of CRBC Calabar.
Professor Esu was to flag off the distribution of improved cocoa seedlings to farmers in the state.
The police were immediately alerted and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Sikiru is said to have swung into action and alerted crack teams to track the vehicle.
