Information reaching CrossRiverWatch suggests that the Special Assistant to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River on forest security, Thomas Obi Tawo popular referred to as ‘General Iron’ has beaten into coma, former State lawmaker, Mark Obi Esq.
Mr. Mark served as Special Adviser, Administration and later Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals to Mr. Ayade before resigning earlier this year, refusing to defect with the Governor from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
And, family sources say he had travelled to his hometown, Oku in Boki Local Government Area of central Cross River State where he was attacked yesterday by Tawo and his boys.
“General Iron led the boys himself to beat him and we don’t know if he is alive right now,” a family source told this reporter.
He was rushed to a Hospital in Ikom and sources familiar with the incident say he was unresponsive and they don’t “know whether he is alive.”
CrossRiverWatch has refrained from publishing details of those contacted for information and photographs to prevent a backlash from Mr. Tawo on them.
It is unclear what may have provoked the attack, but, Tawo drew the ire of top public officials when he seized a palm estate for himself and after beating up several others and setting some ablaze, he was rewarded with an appointment as Special Assistant prompting speculations that his activities were supported by the current administration.
He is reported to have supervised the assault on some senior citizens on May 20, 2020. He is said to have claimed that they were witches and set some ablaze which led to the death of three.
The police said they were on his trail.
But, in an exclusive interview with CrossRiverWatch, he denied the allegations and said he was never been invited by the Police.
