By CrossRiverWatch Admin

The Cross River State government has announced that it is hiring for 22 different roles in its proposed airline, Cally Air.

The State’s aviation ministry, in an infographic signed by the deputy director information, Mrs. Rekpene Uket said interested applicants should send their applications/CV to Harrier Global Services Limited via callyairinvest@gmail.com.

The positions listed vary from operational, mechanical to administrative and other brown collar jobs in the aviation industry.

Applicants have two weeks from the date of publication to apply. Although not stated, CrossRiverWatch understands this will be on October 3, 2021.

The advert was first shared on a Facebook page, Cally Air on September 19, 2021. The page was opened on August 6, 2021.

This is said to be among the first stages before an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) is obtained from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The State’s dream of floating an airline can be traced to over a decade ago with the purchase of a De Haviland Canada Dash – 8 from the Rivers State government to boost the tourism sector. The aircraft was to be managed by Aero Contractors. However, this dream failed and the aircraft remains with Aero despite the State paying 100 percent of its MRO (Maintenance, Repairs and Overhaul) fees.

But, Cally Air was later birthed as an idea of a partnership between the State and Dana Airlines. This continued until CrossRiverWatch reported that millions of dollars were moved from the State coffers for the procurement of two Boeing 737’s.

However, there was a last minute twist as Aero sent its pilot to join the flight crew from the Czech Republic where it was rehabilitated by Magnetic MRO, a Chinese company.

For fear of wear and tear, Aero Contractors began using the aircrafts after removing “Air” from the livery leaving only “Cally,” thereby creating the contraption, “Aero Cally.”

While the State has continued promoting this as Cally Air, it uses Aero Contractors staff and platforms with the only thing Cross River being the “Cally” livery and the mini napkins placed on the aircraft seats when it flies routes to and from Calabar, the Cross River State.
