Ezeiruaka Ifenyiwa Fidelia, the youth corper who was victimized by a Lieutenant attached to the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Calabar, Chika Viola Anele has opened up on issues surrounding the actions of the soldier.
Ms. Fidelia told CrossRiverWatch in an exclusive interview Monday in Lagos that the incident happened in July this year.
However, her efforts to get justice after the issue was brought to the attention of senior officers met a rather lukewarm response until the video of her been dehumanized surfaced online last week. Lt. Anele could be seen pouring a muddy substance on the Corps member and hit her with the plastic bowl she used in scooping the muddy substance.
When the video went viral, Ms. Fidelia was held briefly at the Calabar Municipal council and later released to go to her lodge.
A flight was then booked for her to leave Calabar for Lagos on Saturday evening.
In the interview, Ifenyiwa said that Lt. Anele also verbally assaulted her and the part seen in the video was just a little bit of the entire incident.
The Nigerian Army had condemned the action and said an investigation had commenced into the incident. The Army described the actions of Lt. Anele as a “monumental embarrassment.”
But, Army sources say nothing may happen to the officer as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army had ordered that Lt. Anele be moved to Enugu where the division’s headquarters is located.
It remains unclear whether Lt. Anele was the Corps members Administrative Officer in the Brigade.
But, veterans say Lt. Anele’s her Commanding Officer who may be a Major could have easily disciplined her according to military dictates without seeking for confirmation from the Brigade Commander – a Brigadier General.
A top ranking military retiree also said the delay in taking action after the incident in July as well as the recent transfer of Lt. Anele suggests an attempt to shield her and cover up the incident.
Anele whom netizens discovered is a Mass Communication graduate of the Madonna University, Okija underwent her National Youth Service Scheme in 2018.
After been called out and tagged, her account on Facebook was deactivated late on Saturday.
If true, that means she joined the Army via the Direct Short Service Course.
