Police Rescue Kidnapped Victim In Calabar

Policemen attached to Operation Akpakwu, a joint task force of the Cross River State government have rescued a kidnapped victim hours after her abduction in Calabar, the State capital.

“Today, 20th September 2021, at about 11:00AM, one Mrs Ruth Jerome of No 3B Ikot Nkebre, in Calabar was kidnapped from her resident by 3 armed men. While they were taking her away, they also shot a yet to be identified man and snatched his Toyota Highlander with registration number: Cross River DUK 562 PE,” police sources told CrossRiverWatch.

The Operation Akpakwu operatives deployed at Agro Feed, Eight Miles Calabar, and intercepted the kidnappers following a tip-off.

“The victim was rescued and the vehicle was recovered with a locally made pistol while the kidnappers escaped with gunshot wounds,” the source said.

“The victim is safe and the recovered vehicle and locally made pistol are under police custody,” the source added.

The rescue comes weeks after a former Yakurr Local Council Chairman was released after days in captivity, with the person who paid the ransom, kidnapped and kept incommunicado.

Also, security sources say that two persons were kidnapped on September 14th in Calabar. One of the victims is a legal practitioner while the other’s identity has not been confirmed. As at press time, it remained unclear whether the duo have been rescued.
