Cross River PCRC Hold Security Summit, Calls For Effective Community Watch

The Nigerian Police Force has beckoned on community members to keep effective neighborhood watch in their community.

This was the message from a one day security summit by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Calabar, the Cross River State capital where security experts say security is everybody’s business.

The State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan said the PCRC has changed from mere tool to reaching out to a body of concerned individuals who are active in sharing valid security ideas and championing the establishment of policies that would benefit the public.

His words, “it is not out of context that the ultimate goal of crime prevention or control is geared towards achieving the most secured environment,” expressing optimism that the summit will surely provide more strategies in planning and managing the security of the nation.

On his part, the State Chairman of PCRC, Ambassador David Amiye noted that the security of our society and the world over is very complex.

He said, “we are gathered here today to engage ourselves in security talks and solutions to free our State.”

The Commander, 305 Special Mobility Group, Nigeria Airforce Calabar, Air Commodore Ibrahim Jiba in a goodwill message applauded the theme of the summit saying it is what the Nigerian security agencies are yearning for.

Speaking on the topic “Abstract Ways to Beef-up Security in Nigeria”, the National Legal Adviser to Nigerian Police Force, Barr. Godstime Okafor said, “anytime you want to make an important decision, think of the outcome, for an unanticipated outcome could cause a security threat.”

High point of the summit was presentation of awards to sixteen (16) officers including the Chief of Staff to Governor Ben Ayade, Martins Orim; member representing Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku consistency in the House of Representative, Lagor Idagbor; late Brigadier General Anthony Ukpo; late SP Uchua Amawu among others.
