NGO Hold Roundtable Meeting, Present Report On Street Children In Calabar

By Patrick Obia

We The People (WTP) also known as Centre for Social Studies and Development has presented a new report on the street children menace in Cross River State titled, “Left To Die: Forgotten Street Children Of Calabar.”

Presenting the research report in a round table discussion, the Executive Director of the NGO, Comrade Ken Henshaw said the report which is well researched, is geared towards taking a deeper look into the problem leading them to the street.

Ken said the research shows that most of the kids found themselves on open arms of the streets as a result of witchcraft branding by spiritual leaders, parental negligence, socioeconomic factors, government/institutional failure.

He further inferred that, “Our findings indicate that the inability of the Cross River State Government to implement its own Child Rights Law is the single most important reason the street child phenomenon continues and escalates.”

The roundtable meeting resolved to beam satellites on strategies for addressing the menace.
