#CRSDecides2022: ‘I Want To Be Accessible And Responsible’ – Jude Ngaji On Victory

The member elect representing the Ogoja/Yala federal constituency, Jude Ngaji has reacted to his victory at the February 26th 2022, legislative by-elections. He said he wants to be the legislator that listens to his constituents.

Ngaji, 48, beat eight other candidates in the by-elections. And, on Sunday, hours after he was declared winner, took to Facebook to express his appreciation to the people.

The former State Security Adviser in the first term of Governor Ben Ayade described the victory as, “hard-fought,” and promised to work for all regardless of who voted for him.

He pledged to be the “voice” of the people and share in their hopes and aspirations in order for the constituency to grow. He sued for unity and compassion to enable the constituency to achieve “great things.”

His statement, titled, “appreciation message to the good people of Ogoja/Yala federal constituency, reads in full:

“On the threshold of history today, we won a hard-fought by-election in Ogoja/Yala, sending the voice of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, to the federal legislature. This victory was only possible thanks to the support of grassroots leaders, party stakeholders, supporters and the good people of Ogoja/Yala on the ground who voted and defended their votes.

“Thank you to everyone for electing me to serve you as your representative during this challenging time. I am deeply humbled by your support, and I want to assure you that I am going to work day and night to make sure that your concerns are heard and addressed.

“Whether or not you voted for me in this election, I want you to know that I am dedicated to serving you, serving you and serving you. When we work together, not only as APC, PDP or SDP, but as members of one community, I know that we can accomplish great things.

“During these uncertain times, my highest commitment is to be your voice in the legislature so that we can achieve our shared goals.

“Our federal Constituency is one that has been built by our compassion toward each other, our commitment to decency, and our faith in our quest to take it to greater heights. Now is the time for us to be united as a people so that we can genuinely rebuild our economy, create good paying jobs, reduce the cost of healthcare, fast track infrastructural development and ensure that every student receives a great education.

“From this point forward, your struggles are my struggles, your concerns are my concerns, and your hopes are my hopes. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I am ready and excited to work for you. I want to be as accessible and responsive to you as possible, and I will be hosting our first town hall meeting to hear about the priorities you want me to begin working on.

“Being an effective legislator involves listening to constituents, translating their concerns into workable proposals, and building consensus to implement them. I welcome you all to share with me your ideas, your concerns, and your aspirations, and I sincerely appreciate your willingness to discuss what really matters to you.

“I am indebted to my leader and governor, His Excellency, Senator Prof. Ben Ayade, for the tremendous honor and privilege given to me to fly our party flag to this outstanding victory. You have laid the path for the sustainability of the growth and development of our state, and history will surely remember you for good.

“To the capacity State chairman of our party and his working committee, the campaign chairman, director general and all members of the campaign council, I appreciate your tireless efforts towards this resounding victory. It is indeed a victory for all of us.

“Together, we will make Ogoja/Yala great again.”
