Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Southern Cross River State are insisting on zoning the governorship seat as the race for the 2023 general elections draws nearer.

The stakeholders, including aspirants, met on Friday at the Transcorp Hotel in Calabar where they deliberated on several issues and produced a communiqué of their position on the issue including how candidates should be assessed.

They listed some challenges the State is currently facing as “major problems,” which any candidate emerging from the lot that has declared interest, should be assessed.

These concerns, including “the poor economic situation of the State and the associated debt concern, community values and security against the backdrop of the effect of incessant communal crises in almost all the Local Government Areas of the State and the kidnappings, robberies and drug abuse,” remained key areas to assess candidates readiness.

Also, they agreed that candidates’ “leadership and politics, vis-à-vis their capacity, mental preparedness for leadership and service to the State,” should be another key area of assessment.
