Cross River State Magistrate, Bassey Nsidieti Bassey, Registrar of Ikom Magistrate’s Court who allegedly perverts justice, and exploits his office for personal gain has been transferred.

The transfer came five months after the CrossRiverWatch investigation that revealed how Magistrate Bassey selectively implemented judgments of the competent court, allegedly shielding criminals from justice among other suspected acts that desecrate the temple of justice.

In an attempt to cover up his alleged abuses, he reposted his staff, openly targeting Mrs. Helen Iwara, believing she assisted CrossRiverWatch in exposing his alleged wrongdoings.

He issued a circular Tuesday 16 November 2021 but it was backdated to March 16, 2021, directing the affected workers to hand over and resume Friday, November 19, 2021.

The judicial authorities in the State in a circular signed by the Chief Registrar, Barr. Edem Okokon, dated 26 February 2022 with the reference number JUD/S.40/Vol.2/716 transferred the Registrar of Magistrate’s Court Ikom and 25 others.

They were to resume not “later than Wednesday 16 March 2022 to the Chief Registrar for record and disciplinary purposes.” But at press time, Magistrate Bassey has not resumed at Chief Magistrate’s Court Moore road Calabar.
