Members of the Association of Cross River Online Journalists, ACROJ, have today elected a new set of executives to pilot the affairs of the group.

In an election that was held virtually, Mr. Amawu Cletus, the Eleco Chairman, declared Comrade Edem Darlington as the Chairman elect.

Other officers elected include Comrade Umo Gloria Akwang as General Secretary-elect, Comrade Jonathan Ugbal as Deputy General Secretary-elect, with Comrade Patrick Obia as Financial Secretary-elect.

Speaking after his victory, the Chairman-elect, thanked the Eleco for conducting a free and fair elections and promised that the team is ready to work.

His words; “I do not take this for granted in any way. When we came in during the last two years, we had a great plan to reposition ACROJ and stimulate the media atmosphere in our State.

“But external forces were spearheaded by the Cross River State Government under the watch of Gov. Ben Ayade, for reasons known to them, persecuted our members which led to several of us standing trial for years.

“We were not deterred, we moved as one people and ensured all our comrades who are standing trial were freed,” he said.

Darlington said the association will remain “guided by professional ethics and principles guiding  journalistic practice, while we will jealousy defend our members and will never allow the evil of the past, repeat itself.”

Darlington called on the “State Government to immediately put an end to the illegal wood logging going on in the State by code alleys of the Governor, immediately commence the payment of gratuity and pension of retired civil servants among other pending issues begging for attention.”

The team will run the affairs of the association for the next 2 years.
