Report reaching our newsroom has it that the decades-long communal crisis between the Onyadama community in Obubra and Nko in Yakurr Cross River State is threatening to surface again.
Source told CrossRiverWatch that, Onyadama indigenes of Obubra allegedly captured and whisked away an Nko man due to lingering issues about a parcel of land in dispute.
The Obol Lopon of Nko, Obol Effiom Ayomobi according to our source has written to the people of Onyadama demanding that their son be released. He threatened that failure to comply might attract retaliation.
“About three to five days ago, there was an attempt by the Obubra people to enter Yakurr to do something funny in Nko. They have been intimidating and pursuing people in their farms but today’s case is different because Onyadama people entered into the bush only to succeed in capturing a young man who is living with the Chief of Nko and took him away.
“They may kill the young man and he will be a victim of the war. The communal crisis is now on. The Obol Lopon of Nko has sent a message to the Onyadama people; that they should tell those people who kidnapped the young man from the bush that he is not from Nko rather, from Agoi,” the source disclosed.
Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, men of the Nigerian Army have been drafted to the boundary of the two communities to avert reprisal attacks or destruction.
