Fusion 196, a political support group in the All Progressives Congress, APC on Tuesday in Calabar pledged its support for guber aspirant, Senator Bassey Otu, saying it will reconcile with aggrieved party members.
Senator Otu emerged as consensus candidate of the APC in a meeting presided over by Governor Ben Ayade last week.
And, the group, which draws its membership from the 18 Local Government Areas in Cross River, told journalists in a press briefing held at the Secretariat of Association of Cross River Online Journalists, ACROJ, that Senator Otu’s records will deliver him amongst his competitors and commended Governor Ayade for sticking to his back-to-south promise.
The Director General of the group, Dermort Akpoke said the group was formed “solely to promote good governance in Cross River State as encapsulated in the leadership style of Senator Bassey Otu, who served creditably well as a member of the House of Representatives and as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He continued, “we also want to use this opportunity to felicitate with our principal, Senator Bassey Otu for the huge responsibility given him, of course we are very upbeat that as always, he has the requisite sociopolitical capacity and personality to shoulder such a task.”
At least three aspirants have rejected the outcome of the meeting.
And, the group called on them to jump on the train, as they will be doing it for the betterment of the State.
Furthermore, Mr. Akpoke averred that “this is indeed a moment of sweetness with sweet Prince, let’s savor it and renew our commitment to Senator Otu’s project, our project, the common man’s project. Let’s keep the spirit high as we leapfrog into the election year, for truly the people will need to speak in one voice as they will demonstrate their love for Prince Otu by voting massively for him.”
