The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday passed the bill for an act to establish the Federal Medical Center, Ogoja, Cross River State, sponsored by the Senator representing Cross River North District in the ninth National Assembly, Jarigbe Agom.
The bill, was read for a second time during plenary after Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi introduced it for concurrence after it was passed by the House of Representatives. It was subsequently referred to the committee of the whole and passed.
Senator Jarigbe sponsored the bill in 2019 while still a member of the House of Representatives after failing to get President Buhari to assent to the Federal University of Technology, Ogoja bill which was passed by the Eight National Assembly.
According to him, “this large health care facility will provide medical and surgical care for our people,who have become vulnerable to health challenges and solutions.”
“It is also expected to be affiliated to a medical school and Academic medical center where our youths Can practice to become professionals,” he added.
The bill is expected to be forwarded to President Buhari for assent.
