The ongoing Nko-Onyadama communal crisis in Central Cross River State has taken a sharp twist despite a peace deal initiated by the Government as an unnamed male was arrested with Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs in Akamkpa Local Government Area penultimate Saturday.
The IEDs according to intelligence reports were meant to be delivered to the Onyadama community in Obubra Local Government Area, which is currently at war with the Nko community of Yakurr Local Government Area. The courier is currently being questioned.
After hostilities resumed between Nko and Onyadama recently, troops from the Nigerian Army 13 Brigade in Calabar and 82 Division at Enugu State were deployed with Armored Personnel Carriers to the zone.
Reports suggest that at least two people were shot dead yesterday by soldiers at Nko who are said to be avenging the killing of a senior military officer by the villagers, an allegation the Nko people deny.
Some Nko people are currently taking shelter in Mkpani and Ugep to avoid further attack by the Army and Onyadama people.
