Listen To The Report
Two teenagers, unnamed, were last weekend in Calabar, rescued and accommodated by a not-for-profit organization, the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, BRCI following reports of sexual and physical abuse by their father, Linus Samuel Sunday Ukum.
Mr. Ukum, 40, a plumber and native of Nsit – Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, who is currently on the run, has been drugging his Eight and 13-year-old daughters before abusing them for a period of five years now.
Protection officers at BRCI say his estranged wife (name withheld), was not spared, with his younger daughter opting to report to her teachers at school and neighbors.
Mr. Ukum reportedly pretended to bring books for the younger daughter to read, and will beat, as well as threaten to use a machete on her if she failed to do so. Also, he often gave the kids money for pregnancy tests.
Their mother told journalists that she had reported him to his family, to which he pleaded for forgiveness and chased her out of the house.
The principal counsel of BRCI, James Ibor Esq, said the teenagers are in need of urgent medical attention while their mother needs support as she can’t cater for the teenagers and their other two siblings.
He called on meaningful personalities in the state to support the survivors by donating to the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative account number, 4010467009 with Fidelity Bank.
