As members of the Nko community in Yakurr Local Government Area continue to rue their loss over the invasion of their community by the Nigerian Army, politicians and groups have continued to donate food items and other sundry items to ameliorate their suffering.
Those who have reached out include the member representing Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Egbona, the Speaker of the ninth Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones, Labor Party candidate for the Yakurr/Abi constituency in the 2023 general elections, Mr. John Ifere and sociopolitical group, Brothers Across Nigeria, BAN.
Egbona, who visited the community for an assessment last week, sympathized with them and donated foodstuffs and relief materials such as bags of rice, garri, cartons of noodles, soap, water, seasoning, palm oil, groundnut oil and cash gifts.
Similarly, Jones, who is battling his position in Court, presented relief items to the displaced persons taking refuge in the neighboring communities of Mkpani, Ekori and Ugep to cushion the effect of the crisis. He was represented by his Chief of Staff, Ubi Williams.
For Mr. Ifere who visited those camped at the St. Theresa’s Primary School, Ugep with drinking water, food items, medical supplies and other materials worth millions of Naira, there was a need for members of both communities to make sincere efforts at embracing lasting peace so that they can all return to their normal way of living.
Also, BAN, led by the Chairman of the Abi/Biase/Obubra/Yakurr chapter, Ernest Attah visited the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr, Obol Ofem Ubana with an undisclosed sum to purchase to support the Nko people seeking refuge in Ugep.
The monarch commended the gesture and averred that the items donated will go a long way to alleviate the plight of the people.
