LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Fellows have hosted a town hall meeting in Calabar, the Cross River State capital for Government Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Paramount Rulers, and other stakeholders working with street children.
The town hall meeting was centered on providing lasting solutions to the growing number of children in the streets of Calabar.
The organizers Ubani Vivian, Shadrach Mba Ojang, Duke Emmanuel, Duke Okechukwu, and Oyenuga Esther are medium sub-grant awardees selected out of a thousand proposals received for the 2022 cohort.
The change project titled “Rescue the Calabar Street Children” aims to provide sustainable solutions to reduce the number of children living in the street.
Mr. Francis Okon Egette, Desk Officer for Street Children in the Cross River State Ministry of Humanity and Social Welfare said the Ministry has the data of these children and offered to collaborate with the Fellows to curb the situation.
The representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Martin Omang said he will ensure that parents in his religious community are enlightened more in adopting the right knowledge on raising responsible children.
