BREAKING: Flood Restrict Traffic Along Ikom Calabar Federal Highway

By Godwin Otang

The Ikom Calabar Federal Highway, linking Calabar to the Mfum borders, has been submerged in a massive flood at Okuni, restricting traffic flow along the road.

Our reporter who visited the site reports that the flood is a result of an overflow of waters from the Ikom River resulting from massive rainfalls recently.

Road users and motorists are trapped at the Okuni axis along the road, due to the flood. When contacted the Nigerian Navy in Calabar said they were yet to get information about the flood.

Meanwhile, confirming the disaster, the Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) Cross River State, Abdullahi Hassan said, “at the moment we are contacting sister agencies to see what we can do to rescue the situation, I have called the Ikom Sector Commander to go and do a thorough assessment on the flooded road axis,” he said.

The water is currently rising above 3 feet high over the Federal Road, and over almost 300 yards long from the River bank.
