The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed criminal charges against a House of Representatives candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwara federal constituency, Peter Akpanke, over the death of Inspector Emmanuel Mbang Ubi who died on May 23, 2022.
Mr. Ubi was among dozens of police officers drafted to secure the venue of the House of Representatives Primary of the PDP in Obudu which was canceled after he was shot dead at close range while a colleague was also injured.
The charges which border on murder, terrorism, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms were filed on September 6, 2022.
Mr. Akpanke’s co-aspirants, Augustine Agba, Jedy KJ Agba, Eric Bona Ushie as well as one Joseph Akin are listed as defendants in the case, with suit number FHC/CA/14C/2022.
While Mr. Akin is charged with killing Mr. Ubi, Messrs KJ, Akpanke, Agba, and Ushie are accused of conspiracy to commit felony and unlawful possession of firearms.
