The victim of the ghastly motor accident that occurred Sunday afternoon along the Murtala Mohammed highway opposite the New Secretariat complex has been identified by sources close to the affected family as Mrs. Clara Sunny Bassey, a legal practitioner.
A source in the Cross River State sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, told CrossRiverWatch that the victim was a middle-aged woman and described the probable cause of the accident as, “loss of control due to high speed.”
Photographs of the scene of the unfortunate accident show that the vehicle, a blue-colored Toyota Highlander, swerved off the road and hit what appeared to be a Gmelina Arborea tree planted by the side of the road.
“She was rushed to a nearby hospital and died moments later, probably from the injuries sustained from the sad incident,” the Corps official, who said he does not have the clearance to speak authoritatively on the issue, said.
Meanwhile, social media has been awash with stories that she may have been chasing her husband who was in another vehicle with a female friend, which has drawn mixed reactions from people. However, the person who shared the story on his Facebook page has since deleted the post, while screenshots have been shared by media outlets excluding CrossRiverWatch.
A lawyer who wouldn’t want name on ink said it is a sad moment for those at the Bar and the Bench as the Legal year is on the way.
