Two non-governmental organizations at the forefront of human rights defense, Project Alert and Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI) have continued their advocacy visit, calling for synergy with the Nigerian Police Force.
This was the high point in an advocacy visit by the NGOs to the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan in Calabar.
The Principal Counsel of BRCI Barrister James Ibor and the representative of Policy Alert, Mrs. Josephine Effah-Chukwuma intimated the State police boss about the ongoing efforts of sensitizing key stakeholders and the general public on the existence and content of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP) and the Disability Rights Law 2022.
Ibor averred that there is a need for the police force and other security agencies to train their personnel on the use of sign language and also create a disability-friendly environment for better inclusion of all.
Responding, CP Aminu thanked the organizations for the kind visit, assuring his men in the state will abide by the law and play their part.
