The Calabar division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday failed to hear the criminal charges filed against the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, House of Representatives candidate for the Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwara federal constituency, Mr. Peter Akpanke, and four others over the death of a Police Inspector, Mr. Emmanuel Mbang Ubi.

Mr. Ubi was shot dead at the venue of the rescheduled Primary election of the PDP in Obudu on May 23, 2022. Another Police officer was also shot but survived.

On September 6th, criminal charges were filed against Mr. Peter alongside other PDP stalwarts, Jedy KJ Agba, Eric Bona Ushie, and Augustine Agba. Furthermore, one Mr. Joseph Akin, also known as Obino was listed as a defendant.

The case with Suit Number FHC/CA/14C/2022 was listed for arraignment and plea before Justice Rosemary Dugbo who presides over Court 2 of the Calabar division. But, owing to the absence of Justice Dugbo, the case stalled with the parties directed to take dates off-record. CrossRiverWatch has reached out to the parties to get the new date.

While Mr. Akin is charged with killing Mr. Ubi, Messrs KJ, Akpanke, Agba, and Ushie are accused of conspiracy to commit a felony and unlawful possession of firearms.
