Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), now University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) will on Friday, October 21, 2022 resume academic activities after eight months of shutdown due to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.

ASUU had on February 14, 2022, declared a “total and comprehensive” strike and subsequently in August, an indefinite strike over the Federal Government’s failure to meet their demand. ASUU however, following various negotiations and two court – National Industrial and Appeal Courts orders, resolved to “conditionally” suspend the industrial action.

UNICROSS disclosed the reopening in circular number 370 signed by the Registrar, Victor Ene said management resolved to reopen after the school senate’s approval following a meeting held on Wednesday.

It noted that while the varsity resume officially on Friday, October 21, “lectures will commence on Monday, October 24, 2022, for all levels of students in the institution.”

The management warned that the ‘No fees, No exam’ policy is sacrosanct. Adding: “Only students who have paid fees and registered for the semester are considered bonafide students of the University.”

It reads: “This is to inform staff, students, and the general public that the Senate of Cross River University of Technology at its meeting of Wednesday, October 19, 2022, approved the reopening of the institution and resumption of academic activities for the above academic session on Friday, October 21, 2022.

“The following decisions of the Senate should be noted:

Lectures will commence on Monday, October 24, 2022, for all levels of students in the institution.

“The portal shall be open on Monday, October 24, 2022, for payment of fees by all students.

“Only students who have paid fees and registered for the semester are considered bonafide students of the University. Students are to note that the “NO FEE, NO EXAMS” Policy of the University is still in force.

“Management wishes all the students a happy resumption and heartily welcome them back to the University. It is also hoped that these decisions shall guide all concerned as

to their role(s) in ensuring successful completion of the 2020/2021 academic session.”
