Abigail Wogor, Civil Engineering Student of the University of Cross River State, UNICROSS, has emerged 4th in the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) eco-friendly engineering innovation challenge for students.
The competition, according to the organizers is meant to challenge civil engineering undergraduates across Nigeria tertiary institutions “to research, design and present an alternative, sustainable construction material to help reduce the cost of construction.”
Participants were also allowed to use “existing waste material that could be converted to cost reductions use as sustainable construction.”
Wogor who went home with the cash prize of fifty-thousand Naira did so with the topic “Lignin an eco-friendly alternative for binder in asphalt production.”
Engr. Anderson Etika, Head of Department of Civil Engineering, praised the student for making the department proud, while encouraging her to continue her pursuit of knowledge through research.
