Police File Five-Count Charges, Attempted Murder On Calabar Orange Seller, Lucy Uket

The Cross River State Command of the Nigerian Police force has filed a five-Count charge, attempted murder, and felony on Mrs. Lucy Uket Obono, the ‘Calabar Orange seller’.

Mrs. Lucy in a video that surfaced online on September 6, 2022, said she was beaten and her goods scattered by Governor Ayade’s appointee, Tony Adinye in company with men of the Nigerian Police.

The event happened along IBB way close to the Calabar Stadium. Lucy is seen in the video sobbing as she alleged that the officers of Green Sheriff and some touts accompanied by some policemen and Tony scattered her goods, and went away with the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand (250,000) Naira; money she collected from  LAPO, a loan scheme.

She further alleged that after she and her daughter were beaten, the Police threw her daughter into the car booth and drove to Akim Police station alleging that she wanted to attack them with a knife.

In a suit number MC/327c/2022 and charge sheet signed by the Prosecution Council of the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID), Edosa Samuel Esq., 56 years old Lucy is listed as the defendant while the Commissioner of Police as the Complainant.

The charge also includes assault and stabbing of Tony Adinye; destruction of one polo shirt valued at N12,000.00, and property of one Mechizedeck David among others.

The charges read:

“That you Lucy UketObono ‘f’ and others at large, on the 6th day of September 2022 at Calabar, within the Calabar Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit Attempted murder: Assault occasioning Harm and Malicious Damage. And thereby committed an offense punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap C.16 Vol.3 Laws of Cross River State of Nigeria 2004.

“That you Lucy UketObono ‘f’ on the 6th day of September 2022 at IBB Way by Shopping Mail- Calabar, within the Calabar Magisterial District, did attempt unlawfully to kill one Mechizedeck David ‘m’ by Stabbing him on his left chest.

with Kitchen knife and caused him harm. And thereby committed an offense punishable under section 320 (1) (2) of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol.3 Laws of Cross River State of Nigeria-2004.

“That, you Lucy UketObono ”on the 6th day of September 2022 at IBB Way by Shopping mail Calabar, within the Calabar Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Barr. Tony Adinye ‘m’ by stabbing him at his lower lip with a kitchen knife and cause him harm. And thereby commit an offense punishable under section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol.3 áws of Cross River State of Nigeria – 2004.

“That you Lucy UketObono ‘f’ on the 6th day of September 2022 at IBB Way by Shopping Mails Calabar, within the Calabar Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Denis Agim ‘m’ by stabbing him with a Kitchen knife at his right-hand palm and cause him harm. And thereby committed an offense punishable under section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol.3 laws of Cross River State of Nigeria-2004.

“That you Lucy UketObono ‘f’ on the 6th September 2022 at IBB Way by Shopping Mail Calabar, within the Calabar Magisterial District, did willfully and unlawfully destroyed one Polo shirt valued at N12,000.00, property of one Mechizedeck David ‘m’. And thereby committed an offense punishable under section 451 of the Crimínal Code Cap C16 Vol.3, Laws of Cross River State of Nigeria-2004.”
