Ndayi FC has dethroned Ntamkpo FC to emerge the 2022 champions of the Ikpakapit football competition held in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Ntamkpo FC, who were the defending champions were subdued after a thrilling 90 minutes of football where they were wasteful in front of goal, failing to score, chance after chance. The match then proceeded to penalty shoot-outs where they lost 5-4.
Organizers of the tournament said it has lived up to its expectation of uniting the seven units in Ikpakapit and showing the world the abundance of football talents in the community.
Mr. Ibiang Iwara, the Youth President of Ikpakapit said he feels satisfied with what the competition has achieved this year, expressing confidence that the benefits accrued to it does not end with the final match.
For winning the tournament, Ndayi went home with a cash prize of N250,000, runners-up Ntamkpo FC got N150,000 while 3rd place Atawituwen got N100,000. The cash prize is donated by John Ifere, the Abi/Yakurr House of Rep candidate for the Labour Party.
Zion Randy of Ndayi emerged as the best player of the tournament, Felix Patrick Atawituwen got the Golden Glove while Samuel Paulinus of Ntamkpo clinched the highest goal scorer.
