UNICAL: After Students Protest, Management Suspend Examination To January 23rd

By Isaac Jarigbe and Etido Okon

The Management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended the second-semester examination that commenced on Monday 9 January 2023 to give students another opportunity to register for courses.

Final-year students of the Department of Theater Art amongst others had staged a protest and disrupted the exams over the inability of students to register for their courses, demanding the university take responsibility for giving them a fake portal for registration.

However, following the varsity’s Students Union Government (SUG) meeting with the school authority, the management resolved to reschedule January 23rd for continuation.

The institution affirmed that all exams written on Monday and Tuesday remain valid (not canceled) adding that, the Vice Chancellor’s policy of ‘No Course Registration, No examinations’ is sacrosanct.

The school management enjoined students that were unable to register and sit for the exams to use the opportunity and do so as the registration portal has been reopened and will be shut down on the 18th of January, 2023.
