A former Custodial Officer of the Nigeria Correctional Center, Ikom, Central Cross River, ACC Peter Ahange has bowed out of active service with a ceremonial court session held in his honor.
The session, which was held at Ikom Magistrate court 3, in Ikom allowed the officer to perform his last duty in office. The session was presided over by His Worship, Solomon Ayangkong Ikongshul.
ACC Ahange performed his last duty for the court when the production warrant issued to the Officer in charge of the Ikom Custodial Centre required him to produce the defendant in suit no. IKM/141c/2022 between Commissioner of Police v. Emmanuel Abraham.
The inmate who had been earlier admitted to bail but could not perfect the terms had been in custody for over 3 months. The terms of the bail were now reviewed by the Magistrate making them more liberal as a reliable surety made himself available to take the defendant on bail.
After the verification of the surety’s details, ACC Ahange was by order required to, in person, release the inmate to the surety.
His Worship used the opportunity to commend the cordial relationship he has shared with the retiring officer who without hesitation produces inmates awaiting trial in court when due, and provides standby armed security whenever those inmates are in court.
He described the service of the ACC as reserved and worthy of emulation by other officers in the custodial service.
On his part, Ahange thanked God for protecting him through his years in service, adding that he had always done his job with dedication and with the outlook of someone called to serve and therefore is proud of all that he has achieved.
