Police Announce Restriction Of Movement In Cross River During Election Hours

The Cross River State Police Command has announced a total restriction of all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation during election hours.

This was contained in a release signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, for the Commissioner of Police stating that the effect is between the hours of 12 am (midnight) of Friday 24 February 2023 to 6 pm on Saturday 25 February 2023 excluding those on essentials services such as INEC officials, election observers, medical persons, the Press among others.

The Command enjoins the political class and the public to cooperate with the police for a safe, secure, and hitch-free election.

It reads: “The Cross River State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that, the ongoing 2023 general elections scheduled to hold on the 25 February 2023, have placed the following restrictions:

“That there will be total restrictions on all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation between the hours of 12 am (midnight) on Friday 24″ February 2023 to 6 pm on Saturday 25″ February 2023 excluding those on the essential services such as INEC officials, election observers, medical personnel, etc.

“Similarly, members of the public, political class, and the electorates are hereby advised to cooperate with the security personnel on duty for the overall interest of our dear State.

“Meanwhile, the Command is resolute and committed to ensuring peaceful and professional conduct as required by the rule of engagement. You are equally urged to promptly call the Cross River State Police Command helplines – 07041777060, 09156032047 for actionable intelligence or distress.

“Finally, be reminded that elections are not do-or-die affairs, but a game of choice.”
