Not too long after accreditation and voting commenced across the 18 Local Government Councils in Cross River State, our reporters have documented attempts to disrupt the election and vote-buying exercise in some polling units.
Efforts were made to distort the voting process by a man identified as Ugar in polling unit 001, Obudu Urban. He is a PDP supporter. Same complain was heard in 11 polling units around Obudu LGA.
The Civil Defense personnel at the polling unit, Mrs. Ukwudi Catherine has since informed her colleagues of the ongoing plot to disturb the election process. Normalcy has returned.
In Ugep, Yakurr LGA, an APC agent is offering money to voters in the licensing office polling unit. He so far has served over 5 people.
In Calabar Municipality, ward 6, polling unit 001, the election is ongoing but there are irregularities being done by APC and PDP agents such as assisting voters in voting in the polling booth; writing names going, and voting and getting money as well as refreshments after voting is done.
Meanwhile, voter apathy continues to grow. Some youths are sighted playing football in some streets.
In the same ward 6, polling units 12 and 13, by Presbyterian Primary School Ikot Ishie, it is a battle of vote-buying from the two titans – PDP and APC. They pay N500 and above depending on your weight.
You write your name, go and vote, come back with ink in your thumb, and get your money. For the other, you write your name first, vote and come get your money.
In Calabar South, ward 10, polling unit 003 located at Lutheran primary school voting is ongoing and some selected voters were asked to write down their account numbers for payment after they vote APC.
In ward 6, polling unit 021, is operation vote for APC and get N1,000. They threaten the electorates to ensure they vote for the APC candidates.
Meanwhile, there was an argument when a lady voted and went to get her 1k, the APC agents refused to pay her, insinuating she did not vote for APC.
