Cross River North: Hon. Akpanke Tours Obudu, Promises Dividend Of Democracy

By Godwin Otang

Hon. Peter Akpanke, a member representing the Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwarra Federal  Constituency in the House of Representatives has pledged to ensure dividends for his constituents.

The first-time member, Hon. Akpanke pledged in Obudu during a needs assessment tour he embarked upon to have firsthand information about issues and challenges his constituents are facing.

The tour began with a visit to Ugah Ugah salon where the lawmaker reconnected with his long-time barber, who after taking a clean shave supported his long-time barber’s business, and promised to send youth to the salon for an internship before empowerment on barbing.

The tour then proceeded to the Obudu Dam where he went for an on-the-spot assessment of the facility to attain first-hand knowledge of the state of the project. On reaching the Dam, the lawmaker expressed disappointment with the state of the facility, noting that there are enormous benefits that a functional Dam will bring to the Constituency.

He then proceeded to the Obudu Local Government Council where he interacted with the Head of Local Government Affairs (HOLGA) and the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). He thanked them for their support and promised to do his best not to let them down.

Traditional Rulers were not left out as he met with the traditional rulers, thanked them, and sought their collaboration. He noted that he would need the support of the traditional rulers in his service to the people.

However, the traditional rulers assured the lawmaker of their unflinching support and blessed him to go and drive down the dividends of democracy.

Responding, Hon. Akpanke thanked the people for believing in him. He promised to do everything in his capacity to drive down the dividends of Democracy to the Federal Constituency.

“Your support in the last elections overwhelmed me. I sleep every day wondering why I received the level of love and support I got from you. I am challenged by the belief you have in me and as your employee, I pray God strengthens me to do what is on my mind to do for our people”.

Hon. Akpanke afterward visited Obudu market to inspect his ongoing water and toilet project where he was celebrated by women for keeping true to his words. He also held a town hall meeting with stakeholders, religious leaders, youths, and opinion molders at Obudu Civic Center.
