CJID Releases Documentary On Press Attacks In Nigeria

By Jonathan Ugbal

The Center for Journalism Innovations and Development, CJID, has released a documentary telling the stories of journalists who have suffered varying degrees of attacks in the country.

The Editor-in-Chief of CrossRiverWatch, Citizen Agba Jalingo also featured in the documentary where he spoke about the trying times the Newspaper faced when two of its Editors were facing politically motivated trials.

Also, WikkiTimes publisher, Haruna Mohammed featured in the documentary which explains the need for journalists to look inward and tell their stories too.

“The journalist advocates for every other person except themselves,” says Busola Ajibola, the Deputy Director, Journalism Program at the CJID.

She explained that journalists need to start telling their own stories while advocating for press freedom.

“Can we talk about the challenges that come with our work? It doesn’t mean that we are weak. It means that we have to educate the public that these are the kind of dangers that are associated with the work we do,” Ajibola said.

No fewer than 610 attacks on journalists have been recorded and verified since 1985.
