UNICAL Management Moves Into Action After Explosion In Library

By Godwin Otang

The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL)  has ordered the immediate evacuation of staff, students, and properties out of the University’s main library complex.

The quick action was due to an explosion that occurred in the facility leaving a crack on the wall of the building.

Recall that a loud explosion sound had occurred in the facility on Wednesday. The extent of the damage and whether there were any casualties remains unconfirmed, as authorities are still investigating the cause of the explosion.

However, the University Management through the Registrar, Gabriel Egbe, in a statement obtained by CrossRiverWatch in Calabar said the immediate evacuation is critical to arresting the issue.

The statement reads: ” Following report of an explosive sound that rocked the University of Calabar Main Library building yesterday and the resultant effect of a crack in the building, the Vice Chancellor has directed an urgent and total evacuation from the building.

“Accordingly, staff and students are hereby directed to keep away from the University Library building henceforth. The Chief Security Officer and the University Librarian are to ensure the total evacuation of staff, students, and all University properties out of the building with immediate effect.

“The Chief Security Officer is to seal up the building and ensure the security of any other University property that may be left behind.”
