Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu has undertaken an on-the-spot tour of ongoing construction of a 2km concrete road project at Nyong Edem in Calabar South.

“I came here myself to see the level of progress of this job because I wanted to see things for myself. We will be embarking on surprise visits like this to all our project sites to ensure that contractors do not cut corners in order to maximise profit. We also want to ensure that the job is done according to specification in line with international best practices” the governor said.
Earlier, Commissioner for Works, Hon. Pius Ankpo, who conducted the governor around said the 2km long, 9 inch thick concrete road was done according to specification and in strict compliance of the governor’s directive. He assured that the project will be completed on time so that road users can start enjoying the road.
Expressing appreciation to the Governor, a resident of the area Chief Ekpeyong Ibok said, it was exciting to see the governor visit the area, noting that it is an indication that the state is in good hands.
“To see a state governor leave his office to visit us, is something we have not seen in recent years. This is the first time a governor will be visiting this street. As you can see, the residents are out here to receive him. We know he came to inspect the progress of work, but this visit is also very dear to us and we appreciate him for giving us a good road,” said Chief Ibok.
