The Cross River State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has warned vehicle owners in the State against operating with legally tinted permits for security reasons.

The Police dished the warning in a press release signed and made available to newsmen in Calabar by the Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Irene Ugbo, for the Commissioner of Police – CP Gyogo Augustine Grimah, advising members of the public to shun or desist as anyone caught indulging in the illegal practice will face the full wrath of the law.

The Command said vehicle owners (private/commercial) are enjoined to produce their permit when the need arises, while artificially tinted permit users are warned to personally deface the tinted glasses for obvious security reasons as the contrary will amount to other legal measures.

Individuals without any authorization or permission, artificially tint their vehicles, unregistered, or covered for selfish purposes will have them prosecuted.

It reads in part: “Following the criminalization of tinted glass permits (factory fitted) and artificially tinted glasses perpetuated by some vehicle owners with the intent to cover criminalities under the guise of medical grounds. The Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command in particular has observed with dismay the way and manner individuals without any authorization or permission, artificially tint their vehicles, unregistered, or covered for selfish purposes.

“Furthermore, the Command while discharging its statutory functions aimed at dominating the public space within the confines of the law will not tolerate any act inimical to the peace of the entire State.

“To this end, vehicle owners (private/commercial) are enjoined to produce their permit when the need arises, while artificially tinted permit users are warned to personally deface the tinted glasses for obvious security reasons as contrary will amount to other legal measures.
