The 10th Cross River State House of Assembly has called on the State Government to intervene in the incessant criminality in Akamkpa Local Government Area of the State.
The House made the call during a plenary held Tuesday, 12 2023 at the Cross River State House of Assembly chamber, also called on Governor Otu to declare a state of emergency in state-owned health facilities, especially in the rural areas.
Hon. Okon Owuna and Honorable Odey Brian, members representing Akamkpa 1 and Yala 1 State Constituency respectively raised motions of urgent public importance of the incessant criminal activities in Akamkpa and lack of personnel in some health centers in the State.
Shortly after the plenary, Honorable Owuna told journalists that within the past three months, a Police officer on duty in Njorabica village was killed by some criminal elements, and the case is under investigation.
He chronicled the nefarious activities that have happened in various parts of Akamkpa LGA.
“We are calling on the Cross River State Government to see what can be done to at least assist with vehicles that could aid the police to combat crime.
“Very importantly we cannot fold our hands to see how people are being killed in daily affairs because the primary responsibility of the government is to protect lives and property.”
On his part, Honorable Odey bemoaned the poor state of health facilities and lack of health workers in his constituency that have left his constituents in the hands of quacks.
The Lawmakers in different reactions called on the State Government to intervene in bringing about a secured Akamkpa and healthy Cross River State.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem assured he will relay the prayers to the State Government and seek possible solutions to the problems at hand.
