The Government of Cross River State has warned unauthorized vehicles and motorcycles to stay off all the Carnival Calabar routes.
The directives came after not less than six people were initially confirmed dead after a Toyota Camry driven by one Toyin Wahab Salawu with plate number DUK-505-PE, Cross River lost control and rammed into spectators at the Bikers/Exotic Cars Parade; an event that was part of the week-long activities marking the 2022 Carnival Calabar, along the Bogobiri axis of the carnival route.
In a public announcement on Wednesday, December 27th, 2023 issued by Governor Otu’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbeche, warned that no influx of vehicles without a duly signed permit by the State Security Adviser is allowed to ply on the carnival routes during the period.
To avert a similar tragedy, the government said “No vehicle is allowed to accompany the bikes on the Biker’s Carnival, except ambulances.”
He urged the public to adhere to guidelines and obey security agents and carnival officials at all times as flouting any of the directives will attract stiff sanctions.
